trump and mental illness

A lot of people are calling for trump to be psychologically examined, and I suppose I kind of agree with that sentiment.

Although, I fear if this were to happen, the doctors might come back and say, “Nope he’s not mentally ill, he’s just actually that terrible a person.”

  1. Waffles says:

Well, he is a terrible person. But he almost certainly has narcissistic personality disorder (which is pretty obvious throughout his entire career).

    Symptoms
    -Exaggerates own importance
-Is preoccupied with fantasies of success, power, beauty, intelligence or ideal romance
-Believes he or she is special and can only be understood by other special people or institutions
-Requires constant attention and admiration from others
-Has unreasonable expectations of favorable treatment
-Takes advantage of others to reach his or her own goals
-Disregards the feelings of others, lacks empathy
-Is often envious of others or believes other people are envious of him or her
    -Shows arrogant behaviors and attitudes

I think he hits every one of those. Now, I’d say a lot of politicians have some degree of narcissism. So, I wouldn’t say that should necessarily exclude someone from holding office but Trump’s narcissism is really off the charts.

Dementia is a little harder to put the finger on. Though I do think he is likely suffering from it, in my not at all qualified opinion. It is hard to tell someone with NPD is starting to suffer from dementia because it tends to bring out even more of the narcissistic behavior. But his behavior has always been known to be so over the top, where can you start judging?

Again, this is my personal opinion from dealing with people with NPD my whole life and dealing with some elderly people with NPD and dementia but I am not a medically trained professional.
